Mind Map Wednesday 20th July 2011- Blog 1 Today we started with the basics; we created our group wikispace, made our group name and read our assessment page. We planned where we were going to set the location. Our group all decided that the theme of the task would be a modernised version of "The Merchant of Venice". We chose to make a short trailer instead of explaining the aspects of the play to a year 10 class. Our progress was steady and everyone is working efficiently . I believe that everything would go smoothly and that if problems would arise, our chances of succeeding would be slim. Every part is divided and that each role is choosen depending on our skills . For instance Manatu would be in charge with all the technical appliances and programs, Melissa would probably write the scripts, Hazel is the organizer and lastly my role is to update the wikispace, create the ideas and themes of the play.
Thursday the 21st of July 2011- Blog 2 I decided to check the assignment page again, I skimmed through the page and marked down the due date. I asked my group if we would use either Windows Movie Maker or any other programs. They all decided to go with Windows Movie Maker because it was more simply and easy to use. We rather prefer using something that isn't risky and won't fail saving it on a disk. Even though we still have amply amount of time to complete this task, I'm still worried of problems that are going to appear. By An.Bui
Friday 22nd of July 2011-Blog 3 During class we learnt a variety of new filming techniques that would definitely become useful for this assessment task . For instance the three main types of camera angles are long shots, wide shots and close up shots. The main purpose of using long shots to is to represent or show the location of the background, while mid shots are used to implant or portray movements and actions . Then their is close up shots, this type of camera angle is particularly used to give a detailed description of emotions. Out of all three of them, I believe that the camera use of "long shots" is the best type of camera angle because it gives the sense of belonging, shows the themes and location . Without the use of any words or pictures, viewers wouldn't understand where exactly the setting is being held. This footage would come under Video Essay; while it was playing there was a voice speaking over the car scenes, talking about "racing cars" and how they work together in order to retrieve their results.
Narratives involve telling stories. It basically involves an account of spoken events being put together. This video footage first starts of as a family enjoying the outback and at the end the whole family is joined together near a fire telling stories.

By An.Bui Saturday 23rd of July 2011-Blog 3 I informed the whole group to; individually read the play and write an account of each of the character. Melissa for instance is reviewing her part in the story, while Manatu and I are scouting for more adaptions for this play. While Hazel is plainning for the props and preparation. Basically she is incharge for most of the costumes and products which would suit our modernized discription. For instance she is going to bring her camera, buy three coloured boxes (caskets) and some glasses.
By An.Bui Tuesday 26th Of July 2011 I have completed the inspiration mind map during the class lesson. Everything is going in a steady process, we have decided that we going to accomplish the modernized version of "The Merchant of Venice" by interpreting the characters as being: gangsters,loan sharks and policemen. When I was completing the task the others decided to watch clips or shows of "The Merchant of Venice" because from all those films they watched, it would definitely give them some basic ideas or strategies of how to interpret the " The Merchant of Venice" into something which relates to today societies. After I finished with the task, we all decided to have a group discussion, the topics that was introduced: costumes and props, settings and locations and lastly time. We all knew that the period of time left to complete this task was limited so we all agreed to appear online at five o' clock. From this messenger live group chat we can accomplish or finish our scripts, discuss themes in a more detailed way and lastly allocate character roles. Hazel, Melissa and I all appeared online, unfortunately Manatu didn't go on because he was busy finishing up on his chores and at the same time he had to cook dinner. By An.Bui Wednesday the 27th Of July 2011 Today everyone in our class watched few scenes of the movie. From this it gave us some basic details or pointers of how make our own trailer. They had included some of their new scenes which wasn't part of the play. For instance in one of the scenes it shows that Antonio and Bassanio had kissed each other, this shows that Antonio has some homosexual tension. Another part that was added, was the begining part. Within that scene, it shows a small confrontation with Bassanio and Antonio.The movie was made from the perspective of the director, we all definitely decided to exclude that proportion of the movie. At the end of the day, it gave some new authentic ideas which would absolutely help us in this assignment. By An. Bui Friday the 29th of July 2011 I was away for three days and unfortunately I missed out on watching the movie. I had asked what happened during the movie, Manatu gave me a recap of the play and told me it was very similar to the play. So I decided to start searching through the book to find some scenes we could act out. Some ideas that was definitely going to be filmed: the confrontation with Shylock, Antonio and Bassanio for the contract, the casket part, Jessica's escape, the court scene and some others. These are only some parts, we are going to add more ideas later. By An.Bui Wednesday the 3th of August During class today, we discussed on further adaptation for the play. My idea was based on crime and gang relation while Hazel just wanted to reeinact the play with few moderfications. From that moment on, our group couldn't proceed with the action but thats not the only complication. My inspiration mind map couldn't open because I accidently changed the file into paint. This mistake was absolutely outrageous, now I have to create a new mindmap and from this I wasted precious time. About ten minutes later, we all decided to rehearse our adaption of the play but unfortunately Manatu forgot to bring his clothes. We couldn't go on any further because we only had approximately five minutes to recess so we agreed to sit down and plan out the requirements we needed for tomorrow. Thursday the 4th of August 2011 We all decided to act out the play today; I had brought toy guns that came with hang cuffs, a plastic walkie talkie a badge and a suit, Hazel got her camera, three different colour coted boxes ,and a dress and Melissa brought her clothes to dress as Portia. We all prepared over night and we were definitely sure we were going to film today. Then another encounter arised; we mentioned to Manatu that he needed to bring his clothes and a rose but he mistakingly forgot to bring the rose with him. It was still alright to film but then again we were still lazy. Then again we had rearrange the date to film Monday and we are one hundred percent sure we are going to record then. I asked Mrs. Webber if we could use the spare room in the library, she allowed us to use it but only if we aren't loud or noisy. By An.Bui 9th of August 2011 During our lesson today we have a memember missing who is manatu fatu. melisa Fernandes has an interveiw so our filming time had been reduced to only 2 days. An bui is currently working on inspiration mind map. We have our props for the trailer which all members are catching up to the finish.

I decided to check the assignment page again, I skimmed through the page and marked down the due date. I asked my group if we would use either Windows Movie Maker or any other programs. I have completed the inspiration mind map during the class lesson. Everything is going in a steady process, we have decided that we going to accomplish the modernized version of "The Merchant of Venice" by interpreting the characters as being: gangsters,loan sharks and policemen. Today everyone in our class watched few scenes of the movie. From this it gave us some basic details or pointers of how make our own trailer. I was away for three days and unfortunately I missed out on watching the movie. I had asked what happened during the movie, Manatu gave me a recap of the play and told me it was very similar to the play.
