First Lesson -
Today was the first time that our group sat together in class after Mr Anderson allocated our groups. At this time we created wikispace pages, came up with our team name and read our Assessment criteria. In order to carry out our assessment we needed to create a short film or trailer portraying the movie or play "The Merchant of Venice". Our group (weluvshylock) have come up with an idea to modernize the spoken language from the movie and change it to our own words. We also divided the roles of each character among ourselves. Folio will be Shylock and also coming up with the words spoken, Ayik will be Bassanio, Geleta will be Antonio and Jason will video and edit our video. We've also agreed to include other people in our trailer to become successful with the story line. By Folio
Second lesson -
In this lesson of English, Mr Anderson in class went over our film techniques that could be used. For example long shots, wide shorts and close up shots from the camera angles to have dramatic effect on the characters emotions. Next, our group came together and began to figure out appropriate spots to catch camera shots. We've decided to use the grass area mostly for outdoor activities from our trailer and the undercroft area for indoor activities for our trailer. For example, the beginning of our trailer will start off with "It was the age of Segregation" and have the Jews and Christians fighting outdoors. This will be shot on the grass area. On the other hand we have the indoor scenes that will be shot in the undercroft like the part when Bassanio asks Antonio for money. By Folio
Third lesson -
Today Mr Anderson has taken us out as a class to shoot our video. Unfortunately, things didn't go aswell as we expected it to be. We forgot to bring in a camera. So instead we decided to draw up a story board full of scenes. The first couple of scenes will be important to introduce the problem which is the contrast between Jews and Christians during the time of Segregation. For scene one, we've decided to start off with the two sides fighting eachother and having Shylock (Folio) asking Antonio (Geleta) to do something and watching Antonio spit on Shylock. This scene will represent to heat between both religions. After this we've decided what kind of music should go with this trailer. The theme of our movie is to be a comedy and tragedy at the same time. So we've decided to put in serious mood music with traces of comedy actions. By Folio
Fourth lesson -
In English today, it was the first time we shot a scene. The scene we shot first was the selection of the boxes by Bassanio to retrieve his new wife, Portia. The reason we wanted to shoot this scene first was because we needed someone extra from another group to act as Portia. Thankfully, Natali was fair enough to help us enact our play. Before we shot we had a look at our story board. What we had was having an intro of Bassanio (Ayik) walking in with his crew and standing before Portia and the boxes. The next part was what we've been planning for, for ages. This was having blink shots of the boxes to show how important these boxes were. After we shot this part we needed to draw up another plan of how our next scene will be shot which is the fight between the Jews and the Christians with Antonio spitting on Shylock. By Folio
Fifth lesson -
Today during the English period, me and my group shot a scene where bassanio (ayik) needed 3000 ducats to marry the girl of his dreams,portia from antonio (geleta).
bassanio walked towards antonio in an un confident manner, than had to get on his knees to beg antonio for the money needed. antonio "in a cool and gangsterish manner" told bassanio that he didnt have that amount of money but he knew someone who did. By Geleta
Sixth Lesson -
in the scene we shot today. antonio(geleta) is asking shylock(folio) for the 30 g's (3000 ducats) needed for his friend bassanio. antonio sits down and starts to negotiate with shylock so he can lend him the money needed for his friend bassanio.when shylock agrees to lend the money, he throws a bag containing 30 g's towards antonios right leg. as the bag lands next bassanio, shylock tells him "if the money is not returned to me with in the time given i will have my bond" . bassanio pauses for a second then asks shylock what the bond is. shylock then replies by saying "a pound of your flesh" in a cool but intimidating voice. Seventh lesson -
Today, unfortunately, we had to re-shoot the first scene of the spitting on shylock.
this is the scene when a fight breaks out between the Jews and the Christians.
As bassanio and shylock witness an argument between the Jews and the Christians, they notice that its quickly escalating to a brawl. since shylock cant do anything to stop the fight because his too frail. he yells at a antonio(geleta) as he walks by and tells him to "do something!". antonio looks at shylock straight in the eye with no response and suddenly spits on him and walk away.

Eighth and Last day -
Today we got together to shoot the rest of our film during lunch. These short scenes are short dramatic or short scenes to grab attention of the audience with action. The part where Shylock(Folio) screams and wants his bond is included. We've also selected music to go with our trailer. The other scenes we've shot aswell are short videos of characters to introduce who plays who from the movie we are symbolising which is "The Merchant of Venice"
